Addiction to Sugar More Powerful Than Cocaine

As we rapidly fall into the holiday feasting, an interesting factoid from FitnessRX Magazine caught our eye:

“Sugar Addiction More Powerful Than Cocaine”

Really????   Does this mean that all those pageant mom’s on Toddlers and Tiara’s are really pushing drugs when they are pouring pixie-sticks down their throats???

Fitness RX has more great advice for avoiding holiday weight gain. Check out the 20 tips by clicking the image above.

That’s just our opinion.  Here’s what the article did say:

“American’s are fat and getting fatter. At least part of the obesity epidemic is due to American’s love of sweet-tasting foods…

“Consuming sugar and sweet foods stimulates the reward centers in the brain that creates a craving equal to or greater than addictive drugs like cocaine.”

The information is based on recently released research from the University of Bordeaux in France.

Obviously an addiction to sweet foods makes the goal of living a healthy lifestyle difficult… but perhaps even dang-near impossible?

On average, American’s consume 300 more calories than we did 30 years ago.  Can we attribute this to more processed foods? The increased use of cheap sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup?  Is it because of our fast-paced and fast-food fueled days?  We’ll leave that for you to decide.

Be mindful as you fill the stockings, eat that extra cookie and add a lil more “umph” to your egg nog.  And if you’re looking for a way to blast away those extra calories and fat, might we suggest our fitness programs at The Belly Dance Studio with the much loved Tabata Bootcamp.   Read more about this proven high intensity interval training program that is exclusive to The Belly Dance Studio.
